Print resolution determines how thin or thick each layer is. Thin layers will create more polished looking prints, while thicker layers will be more noticeable. The library offers: • Low Resolution (0.28mm) • Standard Resolution (0.2mm) • High Resolution (0.12mm) • Ultra Resolution (0.08mm) https://static.wixstatic.com/media/b6bd57_f340aed0423d4400bffa3ab339ea2b7a~mv2.jpg What is infill and what options are available? The level of infill determines if the printed object will be hollow or solid. Certain 3D models will require minimum amount of infill in order to print correctly. The options range from 0% to 100%, with 20% being our standard option. We currently do not offer gradual infill. https://static.wixstatic.com/media/b6bd57_e99385e59827484ea393304c78e6def7~mv2.jpg Does the library have sample prints so I can see what each option looks like? Yes! Each of our branches have 3D printed swatches for the colors available. You can also visit the Libratory during its open hours to see sample prints with different amounts of infill. Will I be charged for support materials if the library adds them? Support materials will not be added without approval from the patron requesting the print. Library staff will notify you if they believe your print will benefit from support materials. You will also be given an estimate of the cost with and without support materials for comparison. If you approve the addition of support materials, you will be responsible for paying for the support materials in addition to the main print. How long does printing take? Prints can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. Print time depends on the size of the object, the amount of infill, and the print resolution. To ensure fair access to the library's 3D printing services, prints with estimated print times longer than six hours will not be processed. Can I print in more than one color? Yes! If you would like to print a model with up to four colors please let our staff know in your request and they will schedule an appointment for you to digitally paint or assign the colors onto your 3D model in our slicing program. Please note that process of printing in multiple colors will increase the cost and time of the print. What happens if my request isn't printed properly? If there are errors in the final print, the patron is still responsible for paying for what was printed. Fees will only be waived or refunded for mechanical error. Does the library offer classes on how to create models for 3D printing? The library does not currently offer classes on creating models for 3D printing. Visit the Libratory page (https://www.lcplin.org/libratory)for some of our recommended courses and a list of other resources. You can also set up a one-on-one appointment with staff to go over your file with you to evaluate it for any possible errors which might occur during the printing process. Are 3D prints food-safe? • Statewide Borrowing | Lake County Public Library

What Is It? Statewide borrowing in Indiana is a reciprocal borrowing program that covers the entire state. What's reciprocal borrowing, you ask? It's an arrangement between libraries to allow patrons from one library system to check out materials from another library system. That's right: now with your LCPL card, you can visit libraries outside of Lake County and check out books - no additional cost, no waiting for us to transport the book to you. Which materials reciprocal borrowers are allowed to check out differs at each library. Some allow DVDs and other AV items in addition to books. If you've found an Indiana library that has the item you need, call first to make sure you can borrow it under the statewide borrowing program! When you do borrow an item from a different library, you're responsible for the item just as you are when you borrow from us. That means you have to pay any late fees - so make sure you check how long you get to keep an item. It might be different from our loan period! You also must return the item to the library system from which you borrowed it - please don't return items from Porter County Public Library to us! Statewide Borrowing How Do I Get Started? When you find a participating library that has an item you want to borrow, all you have to do is bring your Lake County Public Library card to that library (to prove you're a member in good standing) and they will issue you a reciprocal card. Reciprocal borrowers are sometimes given a different card design than resident borrowers. Here at Lake County Public Library, reciprocal borrowers and full access borrowers get the same card design. Once you have your card, you can check out whatever items that library includes under their reciprocal borrowing agreement. Isn't This Just ILL? ILL (or Inter-Library Loan) is a time-honored tradition amongst libraries. Through ILL, libraries are often able to acquire out-of-print or less-popular books from other libraries for a one-time loan. In order to do this, libraries literally box up the items and ship them to each other. If you've ever paid shipping on a lot of books, you know that this can be costly and that the shipping isn't the fastest! With reciprocal borrowing you can go and pick up the book yourself, exactly when you want it. You don't have to wait for us to process the order or for the book to ship. It's faster for you and cheaper for the library. Of course, Lake County Public Library will still offer ILL services! Learn more about ILL and purchase requests . What about Reciprocal Borrowing at LCPL? Opening statewide reciprocal borrowing to our patrons means that Lake County Public Library is now also open to patrons of other Indiana libraries. But don't worry - this won't impact availability of materials. First, reciprocal borrowers at our library are limited to 50 physical items. They don't have access to our electronic resources, like ebooks and downloadable audiobooks. See the full list of reciprocal borrowing privileges . In addition, we've hosted reciprocal borrowers from other library systems in Lake County for years. Patrons from Hammond, East Chicago, Whiting, Lowell, Gary and Crown Point libraries can all borrow materials from us. While we are opening reciprocal borrowing to the entire state through this agreement, it actually won't expand our area of service that much since we already serve most of the people closest to us. The further away a person lives, the less likely they are to drive out to borrow books: they are more likely to be served by other, closer libraries that are also participating in this program.

  • Purchase Requests | Lake County Public Library

Purchase Requests & Interlibrary Loans 1. Check our classic catalog first! (Looking for ebooks or downloadable audiobooks? Go here .) Note: You can't complete a purchase request from the LCPL app, but you can do so from your mobile browser. 2. If the item you want is not in our catalog, click the Purchase Request/Interlibrary Loan link that appears at the top of your search results. (If you're on mobile, tap Search Options to find the Purchase Request/Interlibrary Loan link). Still Have Questions? See our Interlibrary Loan & Purchase Request FAQs . If you need more help, you can always use our Ask a Librarian form - available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please note that only Full Access patrons may use our Interlibrary Loan/Purchase Request service! You may have 5 requests active at any one time (requests for digital materials do not count toward this total). If you're not already logged in, you will have to enter your library card and PIN. Please note: Requests can only be completed by Full Access card holders. If you are blocked from placing a request due to overdue items, please contact us - we want to help! Following these steps often works even if the item you need is out of print or very old - if we can't buy it for our collection, we'll do our best to find another library that will loan it to us! 3. In the window that opens, check the box next to OCLC WorldCat and click Set Databases. 4. Your search will begin running again, but you may have to click Add Pending Results at the top of your search results to see the new items. (Tip: Use "quotation marks" to search for an exact phrase and use the drop-down Search By menu to specify that you're looking for a title. When all else fails, search by ISBN!) 5. When you find the title you were looking for, Click the "Place Request" button. 6. If you can't find the item in the World Catalog, call us at (219) 769-3541 or use our 24/7 Ask a Librarian service . We'll help you out! Request eBooks & eAudiobooks You can also request digital materials to add to the library's Overdrive/Libby collection using Notify Me tags! Here's how to use Notify Me tags on Libby . Some things to keep in mind: First, check our digital collection to see if we have the item. You should check both Overdrive/Libby and Hoopla . If the title is not available in EITHER collection, search for it in Overdrive/Libby and add a Notify Me tag to the title. Please note: If the title is available in Hoopla, we will not purchase it for Overdrive/Libby. If we purchase the title, you'll be notified - but you won't be automatically added to the holds list. This is because you get unlimited Notify Me tags and we can't choose for you which titles you want to use your holds on! Your tags are anonymous - we only see the number of tags on a title, not any information about you. How to Place a Request
