English as a Second Language

Next Sessions:

September 16, 2019 - November 20, 2019
Monday and Wednesday evenings at Merrillville from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

No registration required. You can attend all sessions, or just one or two as your schedule allows. All are welcome!

English classes are for people learning English as their second language. Classes include speaking, reading and writing English. Four class levels: No-English, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Classes are free of charge.

Citizenship Classes

Intermediate English skills required

When: September 17 - November 14, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 - 11:00 AM
Where: Merrillville Branch, Meeting Room C

Come learn about what to expect when applying for citizenship in the U.S. We will help you learn the necessary civic information while also improving your English language skills so you can pass the reading, writing and speaking parts of the exam. Students taking this class must have at least intermediate level English-speaking skills (see our English as a Second Language classes).

We Need Volunteers!

Is English your first language? Would you like to share it? Join our volunteer team of teachers!

Volunteer teachers commit to three 10-week sessions throughout the year (about 5 hours/week Mondays & Wednesdays while class is in session). If you'd like to help out, give us a call at (219) 769-3541, ext 337.
