Skills:

The book encourages Print Awareness as some words are repeated throughout such as “dino.” Children are also encouraged to use narrative skills as they follow the exciting day of the little boy and what he will do next! Phonological awareness is utilized as rhyming words are used on many pages, which helps to recognize similar sounds.

The book cover shows a child in a dinosaur costume holding a crayon and approaching a door, while dinosaurs and flowers peek in from the edges. The book is pictured with a paper dino silhouette, a box of oil pastels, and a plain sheet of paper

Practices:

Read the words on the page. Contains rhyming words!

Encourages playing: the little boy leads a full day of excitement and fun!

Extend the book with a dino sunset craft!

You will need:

  • White paper

  • coloring utensils

  • a dino (can be drawn, or cut out)

Use many colors to draw a beautiful sunset on a sheet of paper! You can then paste or draw your dinosaur silhouette in the foreground.

The finished activity shows a sunset drawn on a sheet of paper, with the paper dinosaur cut out pasted in the foreground
