Is That My Hat? by Kev Payne

This book will help you practice talking, reading,and playing with your child. While reading, ask your child what hats they like on the pages. What do they like about the hat? You can play with your child by helping them make their own hat.

The skills your child will be learning are narrative skills, print awareness, and print motivation.


Extend the story by making a hat!


Supplies needed:

Supplies: pipe cleaners, paper streamers, a fake sunflower, paper strips, scissors, stapler, and tape

  • Colored paper (recommended to cut the paper into 2 inch strips long ways)

  • Scissors

  • Glue or stapler

  • Optional: feathers or beads

  • Optional: anything you think would make the hat better


Cut your paper to have at least two 2 inch strips. These strips will be for the base of your hat


Glue or staple the ends of the two strips together to make it look like one long strip.


Wrap the strips around the child's head to see where it needs to be glued/stapled. Please take it off of your child's head before gluing or stapling it in place.


Decorate it how you would like with any other materials you can find.
