The Between the Lines Book Club reads "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Books for this discussion can be picked up at the Dyer-Schererville branch a month prior to the event.
A frantic letter from her newly-wed cousin begging for someone to save her from a mysterious doom brings Noemi Taboada to High Place, a distant house in the Mexican countryside. Her cousin's husband, an Englishman, is a stranger, and Noemi knows little about the region. Noemi's chic gowns and perfect red lipstick are more suited for cocktail parties than amateur sleuthing. Her cousin's husband is both menacing and alluring; his father, the ancient patriarch, seems to be fascinated by Noemi; and the house itself begins to invade Noemi's dreams with visions of blood and doom. The family's youngest son seems to want to help Noemi, but might also be hiding dark knowledge of his family's past. There are many secrets behind the walls of High Place....
