Meeting Room A

Travel through Italy via the library's big screen!

Rome: Rome is a city of unique and fascinating layers. Burt calls it "the Big Lasagna" and serves up a tantalizing taste of Rome's ancient ruins and restorations, Renaissance relics, magnificent Baroque architecture, and "la dolce vita," the sweet life as indelibly captured onscreen by film director Federico Fellini. You'll visit landmark sites (the Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain) and find the best places to shop and dine.
Tuscan Harvest: Artists such as Michelangelo, da Vinci, and Raphael took inspiration from the Tuscany region's magnificent landscapes. Burt finds inspiration in the region's gastronomic traditions. In this delicious episode, he uncorks the fascinating histories of wineries in Siena and Tolaini, samples signature dishes, and concludes his tour at a festive traditional rustic family meal.
Milan: Milan is the financial and commercial center of Italy and the fashion center of the world. And the food isn't bad either. Burt explores this dynamic city's ancient treasures and contemporary attractions, including 16th century palazzo and the grand La Scala opera house (Psst! Need a ticket? Burt tells you how to score a seat to a sold-out performance). Burt also reveals how each of Milan's invaders throughout its tumultuous history influenced its most popular dishes.

About the branch

The Highland Branch Library has long played an important role in downtown Highland. From its beginnings in rented storefronts to the Highland Memorial Library built in 1946 to its present location on Jewett and 4th Street, it has been an integral part of the community. The exterior of the library looks nearly as it did when it was first built in 1966. Although it is one of the oldest buildings in the library system, it's newly remodeled interior makes it one of the newest. The library still houses over 65,000 items, but now also features a large meeting room and children's program room, a study room, and WiFi, along with many public Internet computers. These features, along with the library's bright and inviting atmosphere and convenient location, make the Highland Branch Library a destination for the community and surrounding areas.
