Dan McNeil talks about his 40-year media career covering sports and the Chicago Bears. His book, "I Bear Witness," is your locker room pass to four decades of triumph, travail and tragedy.

Dan McNeil, 63, is a Chicago sports radio titan, podcaster and writer. McNeil became a Chicago brand in his early 30s, known as Danny Mac at Chicago's first all sports talk radio format, "The Score."

Danny Mac's knowledge and passion for Chicago sports, particularly football, coupled with a quick wit, playful manner and hair-trigger temper, ingratiated him to listeners.  His radio career in Chicago also includes co-hosting the "Mac, Jurko & Harry" show on ESPN 1000, and later at FM rock station, "The Drive," where McNeil co-hosted the morning drive.

This Highland, Indiana, native's journey began with early radio jobs that included time spent at WXRT 93.1 FM, The Loop AM-1000, and WGN 720-AM.

McNeil also spent time covering the Chicago sports scene as a guest columnist for "Chicago Tribune" (2009-2013) and "Chicago Sun-Times" (2007-2009), and "The Northwest Indiana Times" (2005-2007).

Danny Mac is the father of three sons. He and his wife, Sheri, reside in Northwest Indiana.

About the branch

The Highland Branch Library has long played an important role in downtown Highland. From its beginnings in rented storefronts to the Highland Memorial Library built in 1946 to its present location on Jewett and 4th Street, it has been an integral part of the community. The exterior of the library looks nearly as it did when it was first built in 1966. Although it is one of the oldest buildings in the library system, it's newly remodeled interior makes it one of the newest. The library still houses over 65,000 items, but now also features a large meeting room and children's program room, a small group room, and WiFi, along with many public Internet computers. These features, along with the library's bright and inviting atmosphere and convenient location, make the Highland Branch Library a destination for the community and surrounding areas.
