Why is the Census Important?

Have you ever felt under-represented politically? Wished school districts made more sense? Wanted new roads anywhere? The Census can help. Census data is used to determine federal and state funding for different areas.

  • $589 billion in federal and state funding is given out each year for cities, towns, roads, schools, health care, and much more.
  • Where people live defines the boundaries for school and legislative districts.
  • Where people live helps the government plan new roads, schools, services for the elderly, and much more.
  • How many people live in each state determines how many seats the state gets in Congress.
